St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland came into being in 1977. That was 30 years ago.

To mark the 30th Anniversary or Pearl Jubilee of the Church in 2007, many activities were put in place to ensure that all parishioners participated in the year-long celebration. The theme of the anniversary celebrations was “Keep Your faith Alive” and the theme song was, “Here I am Lord, send me”.

The activities piloted by the Vice-Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Sylvia Shinaba, commenced with the celebration of the St. Agnes Feast Day on Sunday, January 21, 2007 . The Feast Day was preceded by a Triduum and the events were coordinated by a committee headed by Miss Judith Okolo.

Following the Feast Day was Rev. Sr. Agnes Hassan's 70th Birthday on the 9th of May 2007 . The Children's Day was the next item and this came on 27th May. This was anchored by The Catholic Sisters United.

On July 15, Old and Challenged People had an opportunity to be part of the celebrations as they marked their day with mass, food, drink and music in the church compound in an event put together by the Association of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary. This was quickly followed by the turning of the sod of the Parish Social Centre by Monsignor John Aniagwu, the Vicar of Ikeja Deanery, on the 29 th at Maryland . St. Raphael the Archangel , Anthony Village then followed up with the turning of the sod of its Reverend Father's Complex on Sunday August 19 th by Monsignor Philip Hoteyin, Chaplain of Marian Shrine. The following Sunday, the 26 th , it was the turn of Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Ilupeju to dedicate its Reverend Father's House and commission the office complex, an event performed by Monsignor Patrick Shomide.

On Saturday, 1st September 2007 , the Catholic Men's Organisation anchored a Fund Raising Dinner in aid of the development of the Parish, while Our Lady Queen of Peace, Ifako performed the turning of the sod of its Reverend Father's House and Our Lady's Grotto on September 9. The event was presided over by Monsignor Bernard, Vicar of Mainland Deanery.

A symposium was held on Monday September 10 on the theme, “Nourishing Our Faith”. The next day, the Catholic Young Men Association hosted a day for the youths and this was followed by a film show, ‘Joan of Ark', on the 13th .

Another hugely successful and major event of the Pearl Jubilee was the Group Wedding on 15 th September 2007 which was hosted by the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and it gave an opportunity for couples who have been living together to solemnize their marriages. A choral competition on 1 st October brought together St. Agnes and her outstations in an event to celebrate the Lord with songs.

The annual barbecue night was different in 2007 as St. Rita's Society used their ingenuity to provide parishioners with a night of relaxation. The final event of the Pearl Jubilee was the Carol Night anchored by the Board of Lectors, with the various choirs of the parish to help bring the joy of Christmas to all parishioners on Saturday, 15 th December 2007 .
